Wyndham Clark won the BMW Championship at -17 overall. He won three strokes over Patrick Cantlay who finished at -14 in second place. Clark entered Sunday’s final pairing with a five shot lead over the field. Clark bogeyed holes 1,6, and 10 to be +3 for the day. He was once tied with Rory for the lead and was still +3 for the day entering hole 16. Clark would go on to birdie 16,17, and 18 to finish even for the day and win the tournament. It was Clark’s 3rd win of the season tying Matt Fitzpatrick and Chris Gotterup for the most wins this season on TOUR. 

Notable Standout Performances

Notable good scores in this tournament included Rory McIlroy (-13), Gary Woodland (-12), and Robert MacIntyre (-10).

Rory must have read my article this week and decided to play well. After finishing towards the very bottom last week he finished in solo 3rd amongst the top 50.

Woodland was consistent all week. He started the week with a 64 and 65 before a 70 and 69 over the weekend. Woodland entered the week ranked just outside the Top 30 and with his play all tournament he jumped all the way up to 18 from 31. Woodland qualified for his first TOUR Championship since 2019. 

MacIntyre was a consistent 68 or 69 the first 3 days before firing a 65 on Sunday. MacIntyre has been dealing with a cyst on his right knee since May. And it forced him to withdraw during last week’s tournament. MacIntyre entered the week ranked outside the Top 30 and with his 65 on Sunday jumped up to 25 from 36.

Notable Poor Performances

Notable poor scores included Jake Knapp (E), Ben Griffin (+1), and Tommy Fleetwood (+2).

Knapp had a 67, 72, 76, and 65 over the tournament. He was very inconsistent over the week. Things would have looked better if not for his 76 on Saturday. Knapp dealt with injury this season before returning and now his season will come to an end. Look out for Knapp in 2027. 

Griffin has seemed to struggle since the Open Championship where he finished T59. He followed that up with 2 missed cuts and finished T42 at last week’s St Jude Championship and this week finished T44 out of 50 golfers. Griffin will not qualify for next week’s TOUR Championship. He is hopeful to be one of the six captain picks for the upcoming Presidents Cup.

Fleetwood just did not get going this week at all. He shot a 69 on Thursday and Friday and shot a 74 on Saturday before a 70 on Sunday. Fleetwood finished T47 out of 50 golfers. Fleetwood returns to East Lake next week where he is looking to defend his win from last season. It was also his first PGA Tour Win. 

FedEx Cup Standings Key Changes Heading into the TOUR Championship 

Gary Woodland jumped up from 31 to 18 to qualify for the TOUR Championship. 

Patrick Cantlay  jumped up from 43 to 19!!  to qualify for the TOUR Championship.

Robert MacIntyre  jumped up from 36 to 25 to qualify for the TOUR Championship.

Kurt Kitayama started the week 28th and finished 31st.

Rickie Fowler started the week 30th and finished 33rd.

Bud Cauley started the week 29th and finished 34th. 

Expert Picks

Here, we rank our experts from most to least trustworthy.

Ryan Smith – 15 points (1–2-0)

I had the highest finish amongst our experts. Fitzpatrick finished T28. He had a strong first day shooting a 65 but basically disappeared from the tournament after that. 

Jonathan Hutson- 8 points (0-3-0)

Si Woo finished T33. He shot either 69 or 70 over the course of the whole tournament. 

Adrian Rosati- 6 points (1-0-2)

Fleetwood finished T47 and almost finished dead last. He just could not really get anything going at all.
